Eyelid Repair

Eyelid Repair Helps Improve Vision and Appearance

Eyelid repair surgery is often needed for drooping eyelids, eyelids that turn inwards or outwards, or eyelids that are generally not in their proper functioning position. If left untreated, eyelids that are not in their proper position can have negative long term effects on both your vision and the health of your eyes, so it is important to get them addressed as soon as possible.

Common Eyelid Problems

Patients suffering from drooping upper eyelids have blocked vision, which often feels like having a constant shadow in front of the eyes. They will often have headaches from the extra unnecessary strain of having to lift their brows to see better. Eyelid repair surgery remedies this by lifting the eyelid, thus removing the shadow, allowing you to not only see better, but also eliminate strain on your eyes. The recovery period for eyelid repair surgery is usually one week.

Eyelid Repair – Ectropion

eyelid repair ectropianThe condition that causes the eyelid to turn outwards is referred to as ectropion. Ectropion is frequently characterized by the looseness of the supporting structure of the lower eyelid caused by age, allergies and even excessive eye rubbing. It can also be the result of damage to the skin due to sun exposure, burns and trauma. It is occasionally seen as a result of cosmetic surgery to the lower eyelids. This condition can lead to eye irritation as the inner lining of the eye is exposed. Treatment of ectropion with eyelid repair is typically performed under local anesthesia with light intravenous sedation (twilight) as an outpatient procedure.

Eyelid Repair – Entropion

before eyelid repairEntropion refers to a condition in which the lower eyelid rotates inwards and towards the eye in such a way that the eyelashes are touching the eye. It can lead to infection and eventual scarring of the eye itself, due to constant irritation from the lashes. In children, particularly Asian children, this condition is referred to as epiblepharon, while entropion is routinely seen in relation to aging patients. Eyelid repair entropion is typically performed under local anesthesia with light intravenous sedation (twilight) as an outpatient procedure.
